And thank you, anonymous reader. :D...Thanks, Mark! And thank you, anonymous reader. :D I got such a late start when I hiked Saddleback Butte that I had to limit myself to just the one trail. Later, I re-read the KCET story and saw they took the connector trail. BTW, I'm in Las Vegas this weekend. Several patches of yellow in the Mojave between Barstow and Baker. I will probably try to drive through the Mojave Preserve on the way back, though I think the traffic's going to be terrible.SkyHikerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12149622862975962200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7224556886142717176.post-19424039078408025932014-03-21T12:06:44.972-07:002014-03-21T12:06:44.972-07:00Very nice!Very nice!Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12751942555542399363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7224556886142717176.post-13048431992824909892014-03-20T12:07:17.841-07:002014-03-20T12:07:17.841-07:00Nice writeup, and what a show! I caught the full moon rising from the summit, an added bonus.

I just wanted to add that the other trail in the park from the campground to the visitor center via the Little Butte trail is probably even more spectacular at the moment than the hike to the peak. The coreopsis carpet is more widespread, and in addition to the flowers on the summit trail, I also saw Goldfields, Mojave suncups, desert dandelion, carpets of filaree, and two more slightly larger Lupine flowers. Many songbirds near the visitor center too - sparrows, wrens and woodpeckers. The Little Butte trail from the campground to the visitor center is about 2.5 miles, and looping back via the park road makes it an easy 3 mile hike with almost no elevation gain.

Naresh

PS. Love your blog, I often lurk around looking for ideas
PS2. The blue-pink flower is Davy GiliaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
