Hike 52 was to Jones Saddle, on Wednesday. I got a little bit of a late start and wasn't sure if I had time to make it the last bit to the peak and back before they locked the gates at Bailey Park, so I turned around at the saddle. I may add pictures for this hike later.
It's about six miles roundtrip. Surprisingly empty trail. On the way up, I only passed one young lady heading down. On my return, I passed a surprising number of people coming up (surprising because they lock the parking lot at Bailey Park at "sunset." These guys either had to really hustle to get back before sunset, or they parked on the street.

I got back to the parking lot much later than I hoped on a recent hike to Jones Peak. I was surprised to find the gate still opened a long time after the sun had set. Maybe those hikers you passed knew something we don't, or they were doing the loop and heading down Mt. Wilson Trail after Jones Saddle...?
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Don't know. Maybe they've got the key? Of course, after my hiking adventures earlier this year with the gate at Pinecrest and the gate at Vasquez Rocks, I was not in a chance-taking moood!
